Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Four years since his last studio album, and following up on his highest charting radio single ever ("Personal Jesus", from Lest We Forget), Marilyn Manson returns with "Eat Me, Drink me". Art openings, soundtrack appearances, and personal circumstance have grabbed headlines for Manson in recent months, setting the stage for the release of Eat Me, Drink Me, which is unquestionably the artist's most personal statement yet. Always the provocateur, in what may be the ultimate subversion of the code of aggro-rock, the songs are immediately catchy - all jagged guitar hooks, anthemic choruses, with an overlying glam-rock sheen. Lyrically Manson has never been more riveting, seemingly having enough to draw from in his own life and from society at large to present a fresh, snarling vision.

Disappointing, June 6, 2007
By N. Durham "Big Evil" (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
It's been a bit of a while since we heard anything substancial out of Marilyn Manson (musicly or otherwise), which makes the anticipation of "Eat Me, Drink Me" all the higher. "The Golden Age of Grotesque" was nothing compared to his best albums, "Antichrist Superstar" and "Holy Wood", and "Eat Me, Drink Me" marks somewhat of another departure from the sound that garnered him so much fame in the first place, yet retains the same kind of flaws that were so prevelant with "Golden Age...". Opening track "If I Was Your Vampire" is just plain annoying, while "They Said That Hell's Not Hot", "Mutilation is the Sincere Form of Flattery", and "You and Me and the Devil Makes 3" are more cliche and parody than anything else. Manson's vocals are tired sounding and his lyrics are more inane now than ever before, while the music itself is downtuned and uninspired. "Eat Me, Drink Me" does offer some redeeming qualities in the form of the closing title track, but there's nothing here that you haven't heard before, and haven't heard better either. Very disappointing.

Washed up?, June 6, 2007
Without Trent Reznor or Twiggy, Manson has been showing signs of weakness, this new CD lacks any force that we have seen on his other great works. Over-all this CD felt generic, washed up and I want my money back.

Very different but good, June 6, 2007
One of the best things about manson is that all of his cds have there own sound and direction. This cd hits a rock n roll glam vibe which can keep you interested until the end. This cd finally hits personal emotions of manson. The guitar solos (which have never been seen in his other work) really give an awesome new rock look to manson. Overall really good album!

Sounds like some sort of the music style of Green Day., June 6, 2007
I didn't really like this one.I thought it was at least like Holywood but not even. There was just one scary song and that's IF I WAS YOUR VAMPIRE.
The rest just sounds like the childish jamming of Green Day.But since this is Marilyn Manson and I'm his fan,I am willing to buy it.The songs could have been better.

You All Think You Know Everything, June 6, 2007
By Patrick Cole (Coral Springs, Florida) - See all my reviews

Everyone seems to be dumping on this album because it's not the Golden Age of Grotesque. What's the matter? It's not catchy enough for you? You need a simple melody that sticks in your head upon the first listen? Well I'm sorry, but it seems that the Reverend has started to grow up, and adress genuine emotions in lyrics that will surely help a lot of people understand and get through their own feelings. I admire him for finally writing real lyrics about real things, instead of just writing something that sounds cool and profond, but is completely devoid of meaning (i.e. "this isn't music and we're not a band. we're five middle fingers on a motherf*****g hand!"). Not only have I gained a new level of Respect for the Reverend for dropping the shock schtik and giving us something real to hold on to, but I love how he proved that he could excell creatively without Pogo (who's a 40 year old drug addict, by the way). As far as I'm concerned, Pogo has never contributed anything valueble to the band's songwriting process. Hell, he wasn't even in the original line-up of the Spooky Kids, for those of you who think you know everything about Manson. After getting rid of the two problems (Pogo and John5) the improvement in the sound quality is undeniable. First of all, Skold's unconventional use of random objects to generate music shines through in a traditionally innovative German way (rememiscent of Einstruzende Neubauten); his array of sonic ammunition ranging from skunk traps, to baskets full of butcher knives. Unlike ex-country guitarist John Five, who never quite seemed to play his guitar outside of the box. This managerie of mangled sounds, dubbed Eat Me, Drink Me, is so beautifully dark and complicated with layers upon layers of mysterious sounds. It's the kind of disc that will reveal more subtle nuances of abstract glory with each spin. It may take longer for some of you to realize this, and it doesn't mean that you're stupid, or that you're a bad fan. It just means that this album needs a little extra time to grow on you (just as Mechanical Animals did for most people). Don't give up on this album. Someday you will see things from a more positive perspective.

Great comeback from The Golden Age of Grotesque, June 6, 2007
First off the bat, I want to say that Manson is an incredibly talented musician and songwriter. I think all of his albums have been extremely good, except for "Golden Age", which i thought was half awesome and half undeniably weak. All of his albums have been unique in a way and this trend continues on with "Eat Me, Drink Me."

Now I can see why people don't really appreciate Manson's new offering, seeing that his style has changed. While still dark, this album doesn't really show us the usual enraged Manson that we have all come to know and love. This time out, we get to see the melancholy side to the Anti-Christ Superstar. And since this album is centered on (for the most part) sadness of his personal life, we get to hear Manson sing alot more than on his previous releases.

Now this is why I think "Eat Me, Drink Me" is such a good listen:
First of all, the music (constructed by Tim Skold) has improved drastically over "Golden Age." The industrial side of MM has been toned down and the music on "EM,DM" is certainly more guitar-driven. Whoever thought Tim Skold could pump out solos or even take his guitar-playing to a whole new level? I definitely didn't and I have now been proved wrong. Besides the guitars, I think the drum-playing stands out the most in this album. Even though a drum machine was used, the drums sound like they came from the days of "Portrait of an American Family."

The singing by Manson on this album is incredibly well done. It shows us that Manson still has something left in his wide-ranged arsenal. He sometimes even sounds like he's on the verge of a breakdown (listen to "Just A Car Crash Away"). On the other hand, Manson occasionally sounds like his old self (listen to "You and Me and the Devil Makes 3").

All in all, this is a great outing for MM, and its nice to see a new side to him. On the next release, I just hope Ginger Fish would take the place of the machine drums and I would like to see M.W Gacy have a much larger role. If you're a true fan of manson and would like to hear something new and not something recycled, I recommend you get "Eat Me, Drink Me" right now.
